Ben J

King’s College London
(Online & In-Person)

Bio:

Ben holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Classics—Ancient Greek and Latin—from King’s College London, where rigorous textual study sharpened his analytical eye and linguistic precision.

Prior to joining Tokyo Academics as a tutor in 2025, he reported on technology for outlets covering major launches from companies like Apple, Samsung, and Nintendo, developing the clear, deadline-driven writing style he now imparts to students. He also taught English in Malta, amassing more than 10,000 classroom hours with learners aged twelve to seventy, an experience that deepened his ability to adapt lessons to varied cultural and proficiency backgrounds.

At Tokyo Academics, Ben helps students in a wide variety of subjects, and is especially adept at English tutoring. He’s also excellent at supporting IELTS or TOEFL candidates in crafting confident, well-structured responses and high-band scores.

A native English speaker, he is knowledgeable in ancient languages and dabbles in European languages when travelling, while currently working toward conversational Japanese by the end of the year.

In his free time, Ben records and performs original music (with hopes of gigging across Tokyo soon), writes occasional articles on cutting-edge phones and video games, and explores as many countries as he can visit—often planning trips around the Formula 1 calendar.
