Ana

Ana holds a licentiate degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where she graduated with one of the highest GPAs in her class. Her academic performance earned her a prestigious scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) to pursue a master’s degree in sustainability science at The University of Tokyo. Her interests span education, scientific research, and science communication.

During university, Ana tutored high school students in biology through a volunteer program, significantly improving their college acceptance rates and solidifying her expertise in test preparation and curriculum support. She now has six years of teaching experience in Brazil and Japan, instructing junior-high students in math, biology, physics, chemistry, and Earth & Space science. For three years, she worked as a main homeroom teacher at an international school in Tokyo, where she co-developed curricula and collaborated closely with families to align learning goals.

Ana is skilled at simplifying complex scientific ideas and adapting lessons to students’ needs through inquiry and ongoing assessment. At TA, she expects to assist students in building practical strategies and setting clear goals, fostering confidence, providing an easy way to track progress, and preparing them for any academic challenges they decide to pursue.

Outside the classroom, Ana has worked as a biologist with Brazil’s State Secretary of Agriculture and volunteered in a community garden to promote biodiversity and plant health. She also authored a paper on the educational impact of school gardens and is currently writing an academic article on peri-urban forestry, focusing on Japan’s Satoyama landscapes.

In her leisure time, she enjoys outdoor activities and quality time with friends and family.
