Sharon first discovered she was a writer when she applied to college. Her personal essay earned her a place in the University of Virginia’s Echols Scholar Program, an academic distinction awarded to just 8% of incoming students. After completing her BA in English Literature there, she decided to master the craft by pursuing her MFA in Fiction Writing at Columbia University. Both institutions shaped her—as a writer and as a human being.
For eight years, Sharon wrote for international players like Shell, Standard Chartered, and 2X, Malaysia’s fastest-growing B2B agency. If there’s one thing her career has taught her, it’s that C-suite executives are human too—and all humans respond to a compelling story. She dedicated her career to creating B2B content with a beating pulse.
In 2024, Sharon added a new plot twist to her own life story. After earning her TEFL Certificate in October 2024, she has taught students of all ages, from Korean high schoolers at summer camp to first-year students in a Creative Writing module at Monash University. To Sharon, students are more than just their scores. She aims to help students become their best selves, sharpen their thinking, and grow into their authentic voice—not just ace exams.
Outside of the classroom, Sharon never stops exploring. You’ll typically find her in the world’s hidden gems—from speakeasies in Tokyo to haunted mountains in Yamagata. In recent years, she has explored Iceland, Rajasthan, and Tohoku. Georgia (the country) is next on the list.
Sharon has also been published in Flash Fiction Magazine, Tin House Magazine, Fiction Southeast, and East of the Web. She once read 70 books in four months. In her defense, it was lockdown.
