Bio:

In 2019, Heather graduated from Brown University with Phi Beta Kappa honors, double majoring in International Relations and Literary Arts. Upon graduation, she moved to Japan to attend the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (run by Stanford University). After passing the highest N1 level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, she began translating short stories which have been published in literary magazines such as The Paris Review, Chicago Review, Conjunctions, and forthcoming from Guernica. She currently attends Modern Literature courses as a research student at Tokyo University. Heather has worked at Tokyo Academics since 2020, helping students craft stellar admissions essays.

Heather has a wealth of experience with both the American and Japanese university systems, especially in regards to their application essays. As a writer and literary translator herself, she loves nothing more than to help her students craft an unforgettable, standout narrative that sets them apart from their peers. From initial brainstorming to final polish, she weaves the disparate experiences on a student’s application into a cohesive, compelling whole. Along the way, her students improve their foundational writing skills and leave better prepared for college-level coursework. Her cultural and linguistic knowledge of Japan also helps her guide international students through the university selection process.

Since 2020, Heather’s students have been accepted at top schools across the world. In the United States these include Harvard, UChicago, NYU, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Amherst, Boston University, University of Washington, Bowdoin, Tufts, Tulane, Syracuse, Middlebury, Santa Clara University, San Diego State University, and University of Florida—among many others including the boarding schools of Middlesex, Peddie, and The Lawrenceville School. In Canada she has helped students gain admission to UBC and the University of Toronto; in the UK, to Cardiff University and the University of Buckingham. As for Japan, her students have attended Todai PEAK, Keio PEARL, Sophia FLA, and International Christian University (ICU).
