Yui, Ph.D. (she/her/hers) is a distinguished scholar-teacher currently serving as a postdoctoral fellow in the Society of Fellows and Department of Geography at Dartmouth College. She is also the recipient of the 2021-2022 American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), the preeminent organization of American scholarship in the humanities and the humanistic social sciences, Emerging Voices postdoctoral fellowship. She brings over 15 years of experience engaging in teaching and research across the social sciences and humanities with publications in top journals in her field.


For her extensive training, Dr. Yui has traversed the United States and Canada in pursuit of knowledge. She graduated from Macalester College in 2009 with a major in Geography and minors in Biology, Anthropology, and Community and Global Health. She then moved to Hamilton, Ontario to attend McMaster University where she received a Master of Arts in Geography. With the support of numerous fellowships, Dr. Yui received her Ph.D. in Geography and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2018. 


Dr. Yui is broadly trained in human geography, researching and teaching about human relationships to their environment, broadly defined. Specializing in qualitative methods, her research, publishing, and teaching focus on urban economic change, social difference, and social movements in American cities. As a passionate scholar-teacher, Dr. Yui has taught a wide range of human geography courses and has also dedicated her career to mentoring students through the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program through independent research and professional development in preparation for graduate school. 


In her spare time, Dr. Yui likes to run, walk, spin, hike, practice yoga, and generally spending time outside. She enjoys baking and learning more about the world through food. In recent times spending more time at home, Yui has discovered her love of plants and gardening.
