Bio:

Thomas holds both a MA and a MPhil from the University of Cambridge, where he attended Trinity College as both an undergraduate and a postgraduate. He completed his MA in English Literature, focusing on Shakespeare, Middle English poetry, and the novels of Vladimir Nabokov. Thomas’s MPhil in Screen Media and Cultures explored the connections between visual space and interpersonal relationships in the films of Japanese director Ozu Yasujiro.

In 2018, Thomas earned his PhD from the University of London with a thesis exploring the impact of the poetry from World War I on cultural memory and memorialization. Thomas has published three novels through Lerner Books in the United States, and his writing has received awards including the Foyle Young Poet of the Year.

Thomas has over seven years of experience working with students with a focus on college application essays and creative writing. From helping a young entrepreneur realize her years of ballet studies underpinned her creativity and methodical preparation, to connecting a teenage pilot’s passion for aviation with the physical principles allowing him to take flight, Thomas is adept at finding the unique stories each student has to tell and helping fit them to the requirements of application essays.

Thomas enjoys nothing more than utilizing his areas of expertise—including philosophy, theology, animation, and music—to help his students express their unique academic interests through writing, and to help them launch their intellectual journeys through higher education.

Thomas’s students have been accepted into elite institutions across the United States and Europe including MIT, UChicago, Northwestern, Pomona, Cornell, NYU, Columbia, University College London, the University of Bath, and Bristol University, among many others. His students have won places at Canadian universities including UBC and McGill, and Japanese universities including Waseda, Keio and Sophia. Boarding school applicants have successfully gained admittance to Choate Rosemary, Phillips Academy Andover, Tabor Academy, Northfield Mount Hermon, and more.
