Jason is the Director of Admissions Consulting at Tokyo Academics. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yale University, culminating with a Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies and East Asian Languages and Literatures. He has privately tutored college and graduate school applicants since 2014, and for more than a decade has served in a variety of counseling positions, including as a writing tutor, an English teacher, a board member for an academic society, a reviewer for an undergraduate research journal, Head First-Year Counselor for Saybrook College, and Head Graduate Affiliate for Pauli Murray College. As a scholar of animated media and popular culture, he has authored articles and translations in a wide array of peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research on more than twenty occasions at international conferences in Asia, Europe, and North America. He holds a JLPT N1 certification.
Jason works with students to articulate their goals and strengths, sharpen their writing and critical thinking skills, and actualize their full academic potential. Before joining Tokyo Academics, he taught undergraduate students at Sarah Lawrence College and Yale, graduate and professional school students through Yale’s Graduate Writing Lab, and high school students attending Yale Young Global Scholars summer programs.
Jason has worked with students admitted to schools including Yale, Cornell, UC Berkeley, and Northwestern. As a student himself, he has been offered admittance to Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, and UCLA, and garnered grants from Japan Foundation, the Richard U. Light Fellowship, and Yale’s Fund for Lesbian and Gay Studies.
