Florence graduated with honors from Northwestern University in 2018, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. In 2022, she received her Master’s in Humanities from the University of Chicago. Following her studies, Florence moved to Tokyo, driven by an ongoing interest in Japanese graphic design and visual culture. She received the Toshizo Watanabe Fellowship to study intensive Japanese at the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies in Yokohama. Currently, she is a MEXT Research Scholar at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies. Over the years, she has worked at design institutions in San Francisco and New York and has been a freelance writer for design magazines.
In college, she was a student docent at the university’s art museum, a flutist in the Northwestern Philharmonic, and a designer and Art Director for several campus publications. During high school, Florence especially enjoyed languages and took 10 AP® tests, including French, Spanish, and Spanish Literature. Having spent many years as a student, she’s excited about working with students at TA to identify and reach their own academic goals.
In her free time, Florence enjoys practicing Sogetsu ikebana, visiting exhibitions, and studying languages.
