Carmen holds M.Ed. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard Graduate School of Education with merit scholarship. Since 2017, she is experienced in working with and supporting students with the college application process, drawing on her extensive experience with international student communities and higher education. Before moving to Tokyo, she worked full-time at an international school in Shanghai as a Sociology instructor and admissions counselor, where she networked with university admission officers and international school offices. She also holds a JLPT N1 certificate.
Carmen’s extensive cross-cultural learning and teaching background has allowed her to communicate effectively with families from diverse backgrounds. Not only is she skilled at creating personalized plans for academic growth, but she is also passionate about enriching students’ cross-cultural experiences in life to bring positive social impact. Carmen excels at identifying students’ personalities and talents by engaging in discussions with students throughout the brainstorming phase. By offering personalized advice, research resources, and inspiring testimonials, she dives deep and guides students in reflecting on who they are and their most compelling personal stories. Together with the students, she aims to find narratives that strategically reflect the students’ unique characters.
Carmen’s students have been accepted to top-tier universities worldwide, including Harvard, UPenn, Brown, Columbia, UCLA, Rice, CMU, WUSL, NYU, Smith, Bryn Mawr in the US. Some of her students have also gained acceptance into Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne and more in the Commonwealth countries.
