Guidance through High School

EXCEL BEFORE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

77% of universities and colleges in the United States indicate grades are of “considerable importance” in the application selection process.1

But universities also want students who appear exemplary and outstanding. 60% rely heavily on teacher and counselor recommendations when evaluating a student, and 80% deem extracurricular activities “important.”1 One Yale admissions officer even remarked, “sustained extracurricular involvement over all four years of high school is …critical. Colleges, like marriage prospects, like future employers, want to see that you’re committed to your interest.”2

Many students neglect to treat their high school years as college preparation until it’s too late to build a competitive application portfolio. Tokyo Academics offers the following services, available to students as early as 9th grade, to help place students on the college-bound track.

ACE THE REQUISITE EXAMS FOR COLLEGE

English-speaking universities and colleges continue to rank performances on exams like the SAT and ACT as the second most important criteria on a student’s application. Over 50% argue this facet of a student’s profile is “considerably important.”1

For international students, 80% of U.S. universities deem high-performance on English proficiency exams as crucially important for admissions.1

Tokyo Academics is fully equipped with a team of highly knowledgeable tutors to prepare students for SAT, ACT, subject tests, and English proficiency exams, with a track record of high performance and unparalleled success.

MASTER THE APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process is daunting, challenging, and multi-faceted. Successful applications contain an exemplary record of academic performance, a well-crafted essay, a record of well-planned and executed extracurricular activities and service, and glowing recommendation letters. The application process is a bit like running a marathon: it involves a lot of preparation, a well-planned schedule, and a sprint once the finish-line is in sight.

To run a marathon, you need a good coach. To apply for your dream schools, you need a Tokyo Academics college counselor.

PLAN FOR EACH STEP IN THE PROCESS

A successful application requires maximizing students’ time while in high school. An individual counselor can discuss a viable, individualized plan-of-action with a student during a free counseling intake appointment, but as general a guideline, we suggest adhering to the following calendar.
